Vision Statement

Our mission is to provide professional dance practice and instil an appreciation for the art of dance in a safe, high-quality studio environment. We aspire to present our Sixth Form students with the expertise, knowledge and ability to further their career in Dance. The offering of units of work that showcase and develop their technique and performance skills is paramount alongside allowing them to obtain collaboration and communication skills to encourage a well-rounded dancer.

Specification being followed: At Key Stage 5, students’ study either the Extended Certificate or the Diploma pathway in Performing Arts, specialising in the Dance route. The course allows students to cover a wide range of dance styles and ultimately choose the ones in which they excel, making the course personal to their individual developments. There are two externally marked units and these are both completed in Year 1 – allowing for retakes should the students need to improve their grades. If they are a Diploma students then there is an additional external unit to be completed in Year 2.

Unit 1 - Investigating Practitioners’ Work

Learners investigate the work of performing arts practitioners and develop critical analysis skills and contextual understanding of how practitioners communicate themes in their work.

Unit 2 - Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance

Learners explore technical performance skills with a focus on developing skills and techniques in at least two performance styles.

Unit 3 - Group Performance Workshop

Learners explore and integrate creative, physical and vocal skills and techniques, working collaboratively to create a performance in response to a given stimulus.

Unit 4 - Arts in the Community

Learners develop their knowledge and understanding of performing in the community, applying specialist skills and techniques to a community performance project.

Unit 5 - Individual Performance Commission

Learners understand the nature and purpose of commission work, responding individually to a specific commission brief by applying their performance skills.

Unit 6 - Final Live Performance to an Audience

This unit covers the practical exploration and application of specialist skills and techniques through the development and rehearsal of a final live performance to an audience.
