Vision Statement
The vision for A Level Psychology is to provide students with a varied and complex curriculum that allows for a greater depth of learning. This is especially important because the curriculum deals with the study of mental processes and behaviour simultaneously, focusing on application to how we behave, how we react to situations and how we perform.
Students are encouraged to research independently and incorporate aspects of their extended reading as part of their written discussion, which require integration of a range of skills such as evaluation and the extraction of relevant data to support or refute. A vital aspect of the curriculum focuses on the importance and application of Research Methods. Understanding these basic psychological and scientific principles is a major factor in future career success due to the ability to interpret statistical results and research.
In addition, students have the opportunity to learn current and relevant topical issues such as OCD, Depression and Schizophrenia. These are prevalent in today’s modern society and therefore an awareness of these issues is valuable to both their current studies as well as their Citizenship Education and future interpersonal and family relationships. The curriculum also includes a number of relatable topics such as Memory, Gender and Conformity and these elements of what they study are also relevant to their understanding of themselves and their personal lives.
