Vision Statement

We believe that learning a language will enrich our students’ cultural and global awareness, enabling them to gain a wider understanding of the world and ultimately become open-minded and well-rounded citizens.

The world is wider than Walsall!

Having another language allows you to view the world through a different lens! Our curriculum is a journey from Year 7 to Year 13 and beyond. Our model is based upon developing students’ love of language learning and curiosity of other cultures and is taught through the three pillars of learning; phonics, vocabulary and grammar. At all Key Stages communication skills are a focus and time will be split equally between receptive (listening and reading) and productive (speaking and writing) skills. We encourage students at the end of KS5 to continue their language learning journey into life and the workplace. Our curriculum is bespoke and incorporates the key topics we believe to be relevant to our students’ lives now and in the future, with a focus on developing their own British values by appreciating other cultures. Grammar is interwoven throughout the curriculum and revisited frequently to embed into learning. Students will be employable and considerate members of society, demonstrated by the confidence, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, public speaking opportunities, teamwork and enhanced global awareness that is gained from MFL learning. MFL is so much more than another subject at Walsall Academy, it is a completely holistic approach to language learning and cultural immersion.
