Welcome to Walsall Academy, part of the Thomas Telford Multi Academy Trust. As an academy, it is our greatest privilege to serve and work in active partnership with our community to ensure your child succeeds. Together with you, we cultivate a deep sense of belonging and share a high ambition for your young people to achieve excellence, providing the strong, supportive foundation they need to truly thrive. Our ambitious conviction that ‘Everybody is a Somebody’ shapes daily life, ensuring your child is known as an individual, valued, and supported to flourish.
We are pleased to introduce Mr Tim Mullen-Furness, who joins our Senior Leadership Team as Headteacher. Believing firmly that mediocrity has no place in education, he brings a relentless focus on the highest expectations, academic excellence, and personal development—all underpinned by clear and consistent routines. He is focused on ensuring inclusion remains a lived experience for everyone, with every student encouraged and expected to take part in all aspects of school life. Education here provides a deeply personal pathway: your child’s motivators, enablers, and aspirations are identified early so they are fully prepared for their chosen careers and next steps.
Academic Excellence and Character Building
Your child’s learning is planned as a 11–18 journey. Quality first, responsive teaching is the entitlement of all pupils, driven by a strong classroom culture where decisions are grounded in research. We develop knowledge and skills both inside and outside the classroom through a curriculum that is broad, challenging, and designed to open doors.
While academic achievement remains a key priority, a Walsall education is profoundly character-building. We place equal emphasis on educational excellence and developing the whole person. Character education is explicitly woven throughout academy life—fostering empathy, respect, resilience, teamwork, and digital fluency all vital skills for employability and a future wellbeing. Furthermore, our partnership with The Outward Bound Trust allows young people to hone these skills during an immersive outdoor adventure programme, intentionally complementing academic study to nurture curious, confident, and compassionate global citizens.
Exceptional Pastoral Care
Our unwavering belief is that every day, in every way, our students come first. Walsall Academy staff are knowledgeable, skilled, and dedicated to providing exceptional pastoral care. In partnership with parents and carers, we seek to sustain high standards of behaviour within an inclusive culture where pupils feel listened to, valued, and treated with kindness.
To support holistic development, wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Every child is assigned a Personal Tutor who acts as a daily link between the academy and home. Tutors are backed by a wide range of additional services, including a full-time school nurse, trained mental health champions, pastoral support and access to bespoke provisions such as counselling.
Ambitious Futures
Our vision is to prepare all students for their futures through training, study, and employment—whether that leads to top universities, high-quality apprenticeships, or successful careers. We possess a strong legacy of low NEET figures, alongside varied post-18 destinations including Russell Group universities. As noted by inspectors, “Careers education and guidance is high-quality” Ofsted 2026. Our dedicated careers team works with students individually to “make sure a pupil’s background does not determine their life chances” Ofsted 2026.
Community and Partnership
This bespoke, rich, and diverse experience is strengthened through active partnerships with families, sponsors, and services. Our Local Governing Board works closely with The Mercers’ Company to provide robust challenge and support in equal measure. This essential partnership drives strategic improvement across the academy, creating an environment where “pupils enjoy school. This helps them attend well. Pupils behave very well both in social times and in lesson” Ofsted 2026.
Finding the right school for your child is a very important decision, and strong partnership with parents and carers is essential in providing the very best education. We are proud of the aspirational offer we provide, which will continuously adapt to meet the evolving demands of our community and modern industry. We hope you will entrust us with this privilege, and we warmly invite you to experience the unique benefits of a Walsall education for yourself.
