Vision Statement

We believe that learning a language will enrich our students’ cultural and global awareness, enabling them to gain a wider understanding of the world and ultimately become open-minded and well-rounded citizens. The world is wider than Walsall!

Having another language allows you to view the world through a different lens! All students in our school study French or German at KS3, and regardless of socio-economic background, our most able 50% continue their language learning formally at KS4. In Year 10 students have begun the new GCSE course focusing upon sounds, spellings, grammar and vocabulary through a range of fun and engaging topics. We encourage those who have shown exceptional aptitude at KS4 to continue to KS5 and beyond and are immensely proud that we have had Walsall Academy students pursuing languages to degree level, with one currently studying at Christ Church, Oxford!

The highlight of the KS4 course for many students is the visit to Germany in Year 10. It is an excellent way to practise conversational German and to be immersed in Germanic culture!
