Vision Statement

The vision is to produce students who are well rounded individuals who can achieve their personal best whilst enjoying their studies. Learning in Computing is sequenced to equip the students with the transferable skills needed to create a highly employable adult who has a wide understanding of both Computing and IT issues. The broad curriculum is designed to inspire students’ inquisitiveness around the subject whilst developing their ability to investigate the ever-changing Digital World around them and the interactions between us and the digital environments. The curriculum is made relevant to students’ everyday life so they can understand the wider implications of the development of technologies surrounding them.

COM2 - Computational thinking, algorithms and programming (External Examination)

In this unit you will apply the knowledge and understanding gained from the KS3 program of study. You will develop skills and understanding in computational thinking: algorithms, programming techniques, producing robust programs, computational logic and translators.

Programming Project (Controlled Assessment)

In this topic you are given the opportunity to undertake a programming task during your course of study which allows you to develop your skills to design, write, test and refine programs using a high-level programming language. You will be assessed on these skills during the written examinations, in particular COM2.

COM 1 – Computer systems (External Examination)

This unit introduces you to the central processing unit (CPU), computer memory and storage, data representation, wired and wireless networks, network topologies, system security and system software. It also looks at ethical, legal, cultural and environmental concerns associated with computer science.
