Vision Statement
The vision for GCSE Business is to develop students who have an enquiring mind and the ability to understand and then apply key theories to a range of different business contexts. The curriculum starts by considering why entrepreneurs decide to start businesses and the importance of meeting customer needs. Students will practically apply their literacy and numeracy skills to business contexts to develop their analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills.
The first year of the course focuses on small and medium businesses, how they start, establish themselves in competitive markets, manage their finances and navigate the external environment, including economic, technological, political and legal influences. In Year 11 students explore how businesses adapt to grow into the large businesses we interact with daily. Through their study students will foster a greater understanding of concepts they hear about in the news, including globalisation, ethics and sustainability and how these influence businesses. They will revisit marketing decisions and profitability in greater depth before considering how businesses recruit, train and motivate their employees.
The GCSE is an excellent route into our suite of 6th form courses including T-Level Management & Administration, A-Level Business and Economics, BTEC Business and AAT Accounting.
