Vision Statement

We strive to provide a supportive and creative environment in which appreciation and passion for drama can be nurtured as we explore the processes of producing original work and interpreting repertoire, along with developing the essential skills, responsibilities and collaborative roles involved. We seek opportunities to support our learners’ ambitions and personal interests while diversifying their experiences and cultural capital.

Specification being followed: At Key Stage 4, students’ study the BTEC Tech Award pathway in Performing Arts, specialising in the Acting route. The course allows students to cover a wide range of dramatic styles and genres, as well as the approaches of significant and influential practitioners. There are opportunities for live performances in school along with visits to perform at other venues and to watch professional drama.

Component 1: Exploring the Performing Arts

This Component sees us explore the practices of creating, developing, performing and producing Drama. Through close study and practical exploration of a selected piece, we will come to understand the roles and responsibilities of actors, directors and designers of various kinds as they collaborate to create theatrical work.

Component 2: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts

Here, we experience the processes of interpreting, rehearsing and performing an existing piece of dramatic work, working not only as actors but as directors and reflective learners to deliver extracts while commentating upon their own development and application of skills.

Component 3: Responding to a Brief

Finally, we are issued a brief which provides context for the creation of original work – a target audience, objective and stimulus. In groups, our performers devise original drama, reflecting at three stages on their intentions, development and successes.
