The vision for Religious Education at Walsall Academy is that students should become thoughtful, accepting, respectful, and tolerant members of a multicultural society. This will be achieved through a curriculum, which is structured around diverse experiences, cultures, and beliefs. Starting from the pupils’ own life experiences, we will relate these to similar or different experiences of people who live in the local community and in the wider national and international community. The aim of this is to help them to gain a greater understanding of themselves, an awareness of the needs of others, and an understanding of religion and its place in a multicultural society and in the world. This enables pupils to be better equipped to cope with the responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

Religious Education at Walsall Academy will also propose thought provoking questions about identity, purpose in life, beliefs in God, issues of right and wrong, and relevant ethical debates. Students will be provided with opportunities to think rigorously, creatively, imaginatively, and respectfully about their ideas of religion and develop their own personal worldviews. The curriculum is designed to then enable students to articulate clear and coherent accounts of their personal worldviews, beliefs, ideas, values and experiences and to compare, question, and analyse these. It also develops their ability to give balanced points and justify their arguments, but also listen to and accept other viewpoints. The curriculum also seeks to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of students.
