Building on Key stage 2
Our three-year Key Stage Three curriculum is divided into a range of material project rotations where students produce a practical outcome. During Key Stage Three, students are introduced to different materials/medias and through a designed ‘spiral learning’ approach, students will revisit skills as they rotate modules throughout Year 7, 8 and 9 each time creating more challenge. Our Key Stage Three curriculum is planned effectively to enable students to learn new skills and develop these specifically for individual independence and resilience required for Key Stage Four. Projects in Year 8 & 9 are more challenging than those in Year 7 and so build on prior knowledge initially learnt. As well as learning about material properties and processes, the projects focus on wider issues including ethical, social/moral and environmental responsibilities of designers/engineers which touch on current issues in society.
