Building on Key stage 2

The History department’s vision is to produce students that are inquisitive, well rounded, and well equipped to attain their personal best. The History curriculum begins with a chronological study of key events throughout British and World History that brings a growing awareness of the past and the disciplinary knowledge needed to begin to understand how it is presented. This is then followed by a thematic study of the Medieval period up to the modern day to revisit key periods through a different lens and add depth and a richer understanding of the areas covered. One of the main targets of the History curriculum is to make students aware of the main historical concepts of change and continuity, cause and consequence and significance and their importance in being able to understand the past. Coupled with this we aim to show how historical understanding can increase transferrable skills and create well rounded citizens that have improved employability prospects so students can be the best they can be.
