Building on Key stage 2

Within Dance, students will become familiar with a variety of styles of Dance such as Musical Theatre, Physical Theatre, Commercial and Contemporary. They will become familiar with the skills needed to perform a class routine and develop knowledge on how to choreograph in small groups. Each module will also develop their understanding on professional works and basic choreographic devices and how they can be applied to a performance piece. At the end of modules they will evaluate their progress and set targets for improvement.

Their Dance sessions will build on prior knowledge of elements of Dance completed in Primary School. This will inform knowledge to be learnt with reference to developing basic Dance skills and musicality. They will build on their understanding of how to use a professional Dance work as a stimulus to create a performance piece. This will inform knowledge to be learnt with reference to developing basic Dance skills and musicality. Students should use their knowledge of performance skills to inform their execution of the genre steps, and consistently refer to their own individual targets created in the past module to improve their performance.
