Curriculum Vision
The Walsall Academy curriculum is designed as an 11-18 journey with learners developing skills and knowledge both in and out of the classroom. The curriculum model aims to meet the current and future local employment need and be broad and balanced, with core values of character education taught through discreet lessons, weaved into academic learning and co-curricular activities, with a focus on students becoming leaders of their own learning.
The curriculum is ambitious, broad and balanced building upon learning at Key Stage 2 which will inspire our students to acquire and retain knowledge and skills in greater depth, and provide a solid foundation upon which to make a well informed choice about their pathway at Key Stage 4 and beyond. The curriculum will foster the essential skills to enable our students to become well-rounded, well-educated members of society.
Character strands are initially developed in KS3 and include building resilience, digital fluency, teamwork, communication, problem solving, creativity, taking personal responsibility and positive relationships. Exploring healthy lifestyles and career opportunities also feature heavily. All students reflect and review progress through passage presentations at the end of the key stage to help make informed decisions and set targets for the future.
Curriculum structure:
The curriculum is designed to be broad and balanced with 15% of the students week is spent in English, 15% in Mathematics, 10% in Humanities, 10% in Performing Arts, 10% in a Modern Foreign Language, 10% in Art/Design Technology, 10% in Physical Education, 10% in Science and 10% in Character development which includes RSE/Citizenship/Digital Communication/Learn To Learn/Skills for life on a rotation.
