The year 2020 will be remembered for a whole host of reasons; both good and the bad. But the one key phrase that sticks with many of us is; ‘The New Normal’.

At Walsall Academy, the new normal that we are proud to commit to, and speak about, is our commitment to ensuring we foster an anti-racist culture throughout the school.

Not being racist isn’t enough: We recognise the need to be actively anti-racist.  In the wake of the Covid-19 racial dialogue, the tragic George Floyd murder, and ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests that have awoken the world, and during this surreal period, many of us have been allowed time to introspectively re-evaluate our lives, values and the current state of society.  The realisation has dawned on many of us that drastic reform is needed immediately. The racial inequalities that exist within society must be rectified head on. Racism, whether overt or covert, is detrimental to one’s life. Social justice for all must be the goal.

We at Walsall Academy are committed to playing our part for humanity and the human race and we will strive to educate the young and old.

“In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist. We must be anti-racist” – Angela Davis
